The Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket provides superior sealing performance for the Honda D17 engine. Engineered to handle the increased cylinder pressures of high-output builds, this gasket features multiple layers of embossed stainless steel that provide a robust, resilient seal. The outer layers are finished with a Viton coating—a fluoroelastomer heat-resistant to 482°F (250°C)—allowing the gasket to meet the demands of various harsh sealing environments and surface finishes.
By design, the MLS construction requires less clamp load than composite gaskets, which helps minimize bore distortion. It is an ideal solution for both aluminum-to-aluminum and aluminum-to-cast iron engine configurations, as the stainless steel layers rebound and maintain their seal despite the differing thermal expansion rates of the block and head materials.
