Dinan developed the High Flow Carbon Fiber Intake for the E9x M3 to optimize airflow to the S65 V8 engine. By replacing the stock connecting pipe with an aircraft-quality "prepreg" carbon fiber unit and an injection-molded divider plate, this system increases the cross-sectional area by 30%. This design ensures maximum airflow while utilizing materials that act as thermal insulators. Unlike aluminum intakes, carbon fiber and plastic have lower mass and better heat resistance, allowing them to cool significantly faster after hard acceleration and preventing power-robbing heat soak.

The system is tightly sealed from engine bay heat using an injection-molded divider plate with an integral high-flow passage that integrates directly with the factory airbox housing. This combination of an enlarged filter element and high-volume plumbing results in measurable performance gains across the power band.
