During high-speed driving, the incoming air pressure pushes the flap open, allowing air to pass freely through the radiator core and bypass the fan. This prevents the fan assembly from becoming an air restriction at speed. When the vehicle is stationary or moving slowly and the electric fan activates, the resulting vacuum pulls the flap shut against the shroud, forcing the fan to pull air exclusively through the radiator fins for maximum heat dissipation.
