The Cometic C4168-030 Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is engineered to provide a superior seal for high-output engines, especially in applications where aluminum heads are mated to aluminum or cast iron blocks. This gasket consists of multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, which offer increased strength and the ability to rebound under heavy thermal loads and shearing forces. No additional sealants are required for installation.
To ensure a reliable seal in harsh environments, the outer layers are coated on both sides with a 0.25 micron layer of Viton, a fluoroelastomer rubber capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). The uncoated stainless steel center shim layer allows for precise thickness variations to meet specific engine requirements, while the overall design reduces bore distortion by requiring less clamp load than traditional gasket types.
