Engineered for high-output applications, the Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket provides superior sealing performance without the need for additional sealants. This gasket is constructed from multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, with the outer layers featuring a Viton rubber coating. Viton is a fluoroelastomer material capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250°C (482°F), designed to handle harsh sealing environments and varied surface finishes.
The MLS design is specifically effective for sealing aluminum cylinder heads to either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as it successfully resists the shearing forces created by different thermal expansion rates. By requiring less clamping load than traditional gaskets, it helps reduce bore distortion and ensures even load distribution across the sealing surface.
