The core of the Iridium IX series is the 0.6mm fine-wire iridium center electrode. Iridium is six times harder than platinum and features an extremely high melting point, allowing for a consistently stable spark even under the high temperatures and pressures of modified or high-compression powerplants. To further improve combustion efficiency, the ground electrode features a tapered cut, reducing quenching and facilitating faster flame kernel expansion during the ignition cycle.

Each plug is finished with trivalent metal plating, providing a robust barrier against corrosion and seizing, which is critical for long-term service in aluminum cylinder heads. These plugs serve as a direct high-performance upgrade for original equipment nickel alloy spark plugs.
