This system effectively eliminates fuel starvation by maintaining a constant volume of fuel around the primary pump, preventing pressure drops during high-G cornering or low fuel levels. By housing the surge tank inside the cell, it simplifies plumbing and improves safety by keeping high-pressure components protected.
This specific configuration, part number 20-1990-01, includes one Walbro GSS342 lift pump to scavenge fuel from the cell and one Walbro GSS342 primary pump within the surge chamber. The assembly is designed for maximum serviceability, utilizing lift-out fuel pump modules that allow for quick pump inspection or replacement without the need to disassemble the entire tank from the fuel cell.
