The Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is engineered to provide maximum sealing performance for high-output engines without the need for additional sealants. Constructed from multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, this gasket features outer layers coated with a Viton rubber-based fluoroelastomer. This specialized coating is heat-resistant up to 250°C (482°F), allowing it to maintain a reliable seal in the harshest combustion environments and under varied load conditions.
Designed for both aluminum-to-aluminum and aluminum-to-cast iron mating surfaces, the MLS construction withstands the shearing forces caused by differing thermal expansion rates. The uncoated stainless steel center shim allows for precise thickness control, ensuring even load distribution across the sealing area and reducing bore distortion caused by excessive clamping force.
