The Cometic C4231-030 Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket provides superior sealing performance for high-output naturally aspirated and forced induction engines. Engineered to withstand the extreme cylinder pressures of modern performance builds, this gasket requires no additional sealants. The MLS design is specifically effective for sealing aluminum cylinder heads to either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as the multi-layer construction easily absorbs the shearing forces caused by differing thermal expansion rates.
This gasket is constructed from multiple embossed layers of high-grade stainless steel. The outer layers are coated on both sides with Viton—a heat-resistant fluoroelastomer capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). This coating ensures a reliable seal across various surface finishes and load conditions, while the uncoated stainless steel shim layer allows for precise thickness control and recovery.
