The Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) Head Gasket is engineered for high-output engines that demand superior sealing under extreme combustion pressures. This 84mm bore gasket features a compressed operating thickness of 0.040 inches, utilizing multiple layers of embossed stainless steel to provide the resilience and rebound necessary to maintain a seal. The MLS design is particularly effective for engines with dissimilar metallurgy, such as aluminum heads on cast iron blocks, as the layers absorb the shearing forces created by different thermal expansion rates.
Each gasket is constructed with outer layers coated in Viton, a heat-resistant fluoroelastomer capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). This specialized coating ensures a reliable seal across various surface finishes and load conditions, while the shim layer allows for precise thickness requirements. These gaskets are designed to provide maximum sealing without the need for additional sealants and help reduce bore distortion by requiring less clamp load.
