This gasket consists of multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, with outer layers coated in Viton—a heat-resistant fluoroelastomer capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). The multi-layer design creates a structural rebound effect that resists corrosion and manages the shearing forces created by different thermal expansion rates between the cylinder head and engine block.

The Cometic C4182-030 is designed to require less clamping load compared to traditional gaskets, which reduces bore distortion and ensures even load distribution across the entire sealing surface.
