The Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) Head Gasket (C14039-040) is engineered to provide maximum sealing performance for high-output K-series engines without the need for additional sealants. Constructed from multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, this gasket offers superior rebound and corrosion resistance. It is specifically designed to withstand the shearing forces created by differing expansion rates between aluminum heads and iron or aluminum blocks.
The outer layers are finished with a 0.25-micron thick Viton rubber coating, a fluoroelastomer material that remains stable in temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). This advanced coating ensures a reliable seal across various surface finishes and load conditions, while the uncoated stainless steel center shim allows for precise thickness requirements and reduced bore distortion during clamping.
