Fits 1990-2000 Mazda Miata, Protege, and Ford Escort GT (1.8L). This Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is engineered to provide a superior seal for high-output DOHC engines. Utilizing a layered stainless steel design, it handles the increased cylinder pressures and shearing forces common in performance builds, particularly when mating aluminum heads to cast iron or aluminum blocks.
Construction features multiple embossed layers of stainless steel. The outer layers are coated with a 0.25-micron Viton layer—a fluoroelastomer rubber designed to withstand temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). This specialized coating ensures the gasket conforms to surface finishes and maintains a reliable seal under harsh loading conditions. The center shim layer is uncoated stainless steel, precisely gauged to achieve the .040-inch operating thickness. Because of the MLS design, this gasket requires less clamp load, which helps minimize bore distortion during assembly.
