Bungs

Weld-in bungs are the foundation for adding oxygen sensors, exhaust gas temperature probes, wideband controllers, or air/fuel ratio gauges to your exhaust system. This collection covers the bungs you need to properly mount sensors in headers, downpipes, test pipes, and cat-back systems—whether you're tuning, diagnosing, or building a custom exhaust.

Choosing the right bung comes down to thread size, material, and sensor type. Most common passenger-vehicle O2 sensors use an M18×1.5 thread; larger diesel or industrial applications may call for M12 or M14. The bung material should match your exhaust tubing—mild steel for aluminized steel, 304 stainless for stainless systems—to ensure clean welds and corrosion resistance. Some bungs include a tapered seat for sensor sealing, while others use a flat gasket surface.

  • Common M18×1.5 thread for narrowband and most wideband sensors
  • Available in mild steel and 304 stainless steel
  • Straight and angled profiles to clear tight spaces
  • Bungs for standard narrowband, wideband, and EGT probes

For mild-steel exhausts, a zinc-plated bung keeps cost down and welds easily. When you're working with stainless tubing, a matching stainless bung prevents galvanic corrosion. If space around the sensor is tight, an angled bung can angle the sensor away from the firewall or transmission. No matter the project, starting with the correct bung saves rework and keeps your sensor sealing leak-free.
