Skunk2 is synonymous with innovation, so it's no surprise that its engineers took the company's highly successful and widely copied Pro Series Ball Joints and made them even better. Pro Series Ball Joints V2.0, which are compatible with 92-00 Civic and 94-01 Integra Tuner Series, Pro Series, and Pro Series Plus Front Camber Kits, may look similar to their predecessor on the surface, but they aren't. Pro Series Ball Joints V2.0 help alleviate typical clearance problems normally associated with lowered cars and aftermarket, adjustable ball joints. Typically, the front, upper A-arm's ball joint's range of motion maxes out on lowered cars, causing the suspension arm to bind at the joint. Skunk2's Pro Series Ball Joints V2.0 alleviate this problem thanks to a 3mm larger diameter pivot ball and a notched housing that allows for increased range of motion and increased strength. A high quality Teflon liner is also used to surround the ball joint for smoother operation, while the rubber boot that houses the ball joint now utilizes a crimped design that allows for the increased angle, adding both durability and longevity.

ICON’s Delta Joint is a heavy-duty high-angle ball joint that combines the durability of a ball joint with the performance characteristics of a traditional uniball. While the industry standard uniball does a great job of allowing the control arms of a vehicle to articulate with little bind, they do have an inherent weakness that leaves more to be desired when used in a daily driven application - exposure to the elements. The Delta Joint’s zinc plated housing provides the first layer of corrosion resistance, while a tough grease seal keeps potentially harmful elements out of the inner workings of the joint. Metal on metal construction and a greaseable design increase the longevity of the Delta Joint while also allowing for noise-free operation. What makes the Delta Joint unique is that it brings the best of both worlds to Non-ICON upper control arms with features that make it more robust than a uniball, and capable of greater angularity than a typical ball joint.

With a heavy duty design, this is still a joint and thus still a wear item. Being a press in ball joint, you would think it will be a pain to freshen up, but the Alpha Ball Joint is rebuildable and simple to do with a rebuild kit. The ease of rebuilding stems from the corrosion resistant zinc plated housing of the ball joint remaining in the control arm. The ball joint can be rebuilt in the control arm without even having to remove the control arm from the truck. Once the taper pin is removed from the spindle, the top cap of the ball joint is removed followed by all the internal components. The rebuild kit comes with all new internal alloy races, a taper pin, and new scraper seal. Those items are installed with grease, the cap fastened back in place, and then the taper pin re-fastened to the spindle, and that’s it!

The patented Cognito Alpha Ball Joint is the next level, end-all be-all solution of upper ball joints. It eliminates the problematic dust/grease boot by using a durable scraper type seal that is not susceptible to damage that a traditional dust/grease boot is. Although the ball joint is firmly sealed and pre-greased, there is a grease fitting at top for any periodic maintenance needed. With a small internal cavity for grease, the joint does not need much at all. The internals are alloy steel, absent of any plastic liner, with alloy races and grease paths. The carburized and surface coated taper pin is a precise fit, has an oversized sphere in the socket for large contact surface providing excellent strength and wear characteristics.

Ball joints are made up of a lower ball joint and upper floating king-pin. The upper ball joint is designed as a pivot point determining the axis on which the knuckle will move and thus, only sees a lateral load. The lower ball joint tracks the knuckle on an imperfect axis, the spherical lower is required to allow the knuckle to move freely with only a slight vertical travel through its steering cycle. Carli Extreme-Duty Upper Ball Joints have a pin and housing but the “hat” of the pin contacts the housing. This adds a second wear surface to further distribute the load applied laterally to the ball joint while providing the same failsafe as a factory ball joint ensuring the pin cannot be pulled through the bottom of the ball joint housing. Further, there is no sleeve isolating the wear surfaces, eliminating the point of failure. A Viton Seal at the bottom of the housing prevents the environment elements from entering the ball joint. The lower joints have no liners of any kind. At the top, a bronze wear surface preloaded by a disc spring, safety washer and snap ring ensures the ball joints wear surfaces are always held tightly together for superior performance. Materials and process play an important role in the impressive durability and performance of Carli Extreme-Duty Ball Joints. It starts with masking. All surfaces but the wear surface are masked with a copper plating. Once plated, the ball joints head to carburizing. The carburizing creates an extremely hard surface with a case-hardness (penetrating depth) of 20-25 thousandths. When the ball joint has completed the carburizing/heat treatment, it’s stripped of the copper masking, leaving the entire joint heat treated and the wear surfaces incredibly hard. The entire joint is then covered with a corrosion resistant gray coating for protection from the elements.
