The third-generation Chevrolet Silverado was offered with both 5.3L and 6.2L LS engines. These engines feature direct injection, which is great for creating an efficient burn and saving fuel but allows for carbon buildup on the intake valves. As blow-by flows over the intake valves, oil and carbon deposits can build up, impeding airflow and eventually preventing the valves from closing. The best way to treat carbon buildup is to prevent it, and that's where this Mishimoto Chevrolet/GMC 1500 direct-fit catch can kit comes in. This Mishimoto catch can kit diverts blow-by away from the intake and traps it in our catch can. Inside the can, a set of air turbulators and baffles separate fuel, oil, and water vapors from the crankcase gasses and collects them to be drained next time you change your oil. By not returning the blow-by to your oil pan, our kit prevents fouling of the oil that could reduce its effectiveness, leading to accelerated engine wear. Finally, a sintered bronze filter removes any remaining carbon from the crankcase gases so that only clean air returns to your intake. The direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0L Hurricane engine found in the 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler JL is the most advanced engine ever fitted to a Wrangler. But, despite all the high-tech features that make the Hurricane great, It's still vulnerable to a very low-tech problem: blow-by. The fuel efficiency and increased power of direct injection comes with the threat of carbon buildup. As fuel and air get squeezed in the cylinder, some of the mixture leaks past the piston rings and carries oil from the cylinder walls with it. This mixture is known as blow-by. To prevent crankcase pressure from building up, the blow-by is then vented into the intake to be reburned. Blow-by becomes an issue with direct-injected engines when it passes the intake valves. Without fuel spraying over the valve, There's nothing to wash off the blow-by and heat from combustion eventually causes it to build up as carbon on the back of the intake valves. That carbon buildup prevents valves from closing fully and disrupts airflow. The result is poor running, misfires and, if left long enough, engine damage. The best solution to the problem of blow-by buildup is prevention. Instead of letting blow-by enter the intake, the Mishimoto 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler JL 2.0L direct-fit baffled oil catch can kit diverts it away from the intake valves and into a 7.5 oz catch can. You can then recycle the contents of the catch can with your next oil change. The internal air diverters and baffle of our catch can thoroughly condense oil, fuel, and water vapor so that the only air flowing through your intake is fresh air. High-output engines require high-flow crankcase ventilation. More air and fuel going into the cylinder means more blow-by working its way past the piston rings and traveling around your intake system. All that volume needs room to flow, and if you're using a catch can, it better flow well too. Luckily, Mishimoto has created a catch can that meets those needs. Our high-flow catch can utilizes a high-capacity bottom with a 5.3 fl. oz. capacity. The CNC-machined lid includes large, M27 x 2.0 inlets and outlets to let your crankcase breathe. Inside the can is a newly engineered, CNC-machined baffle with integrated filter that lets crankcase gases flow through while filtering out potentially harmful fuel, oil, and water vapors. Like our compact baffled oil catch can, our high-flow catch can and filter are fully serviceable for easy draining and cleaning. The included 3/8ft NPT plug in the bottom of the can allows you to drain the can without removing the bottom or attach our available drain kit for even easier servicing. Also included with this kit is a universal bracket and mounting hardware to locate the catch can in the most convenient and secure location. Carbon buildup is an enemy of any motor, and the Mishimoto Direct-Fit Oil Catch Can system for your 2011+ Ford F-150 is the defense. Modern vehicles use a PCV, or Positive Crankcase Ventilation", system to capture the vapors that escape past the piston rings into the crankcase of your engine and recirculate them back into the intake system to be burned again. While this is much better for the environment, it's not as great for your engine. In doing so, these vapors carry remnants of oil and unburned fuel, which make their way into your intake system, causing multiple problems. The first and largest problem is that the oil particles being carried in these vapors coat your intake system, including the intake manifold and intake valves. Over time, this will gum up and turn into carbon buildup. Direct-injection engines, like the EcoBoost, are especially prone to severe carbon buildup on the intake valves. The second issue is that those oily vapors being introduced back into the cylinder during combustion can reduce the overall octane rating of the fresh fuel being provided, causing pre-detonation and knocking. Mishimoto engineers found that most vehicles, placing the catch can in the vacuum assisted PCV system of the vehicle will yield the most amount of oil accumulation during normal and aggressive driving. Where a catch can placed on the crankcase vent system on the left side of the engine will yield very little accumulation on stock or lightly modified vehicles. Having only one catch can, tied into the PCV system will, by far, work the best for the vast majority of Ford Focus STs on the road.
