The Mid Merge The Sportback introduced new in-cabin acoustic behavior and undercar packaging that wasn’t found on the other members of the B9 trio. In order to produce a signature AWE tone out of the 3.0T-powered S5 Sportback while engineering around the unique undercarriage, the mid merge was born. Deployment of the mid merge allows the Sportback configurations to exist without any of resonators, thus ensuring the full, sophisticated howl of the 3.0T engine will never change over time. Tip Options All tip options include the AWE logo, and double-walling to ensure a mirror finish even under hard usage. SwitchPath™unleashes a signature soundtrack out of the Z06, whether the valves are open or closed, thanks to its specifically tuned straight-through mufflers and precision-engineered x-pipe. It’s aggressive with the valves closed, and viscous with them open–just how a high-revving flat-plane V8 should be. Well-collected and comfortable when cruising (like stock), a riot when ripping, all controlled via the factory controls. If you’re planning on high flow cats, proceed with confidence as we engineered our mufflers to be fully capable of controlling those harsh frequencies. No valve relearn, ever: there's no need for a post-install visit to your local dealer for a valve relearn. Once it’s on, you’re clear for takeoff. Built for the long haul: not only does SwitchPath™ feature tier 1 OEM-supplied valves, included in every kit is a set of machined aluminum brackets to accommodate the factory valve motors and their factory linkage, keeping them away from the hot exhaust prolonging the lifespan of the electronics. Further, these valves won’t rattle a year later after installation – others on the market will. Stealth shielding: two machined aluminum heat shields bolt-on to the Z06’s bumper using factory mounting points allowing the exhaust to shine through the mesh while protecting the inside of the bumper. No exhaust wraps that will inevitably become waterlogged and cause damage to whatever lies underneath. Lighter is always faster: SwitchPath™ Exhaust: 42.5 lbs vs stock: 57.5 lbs. For those who like their volume like their speed (and want to feel the raw nature of the GRC’s potent 3-cylinder at all speeds) the Track Edition features a non-resonated mid-section (i.e. no 180 Technology®). It’s even louder (in & out) than the Touring Edition, while shaving weight and cost. This version is known to get rowdy in mid-range acceleration/deceleration and cruising, and may be too much for some. For this reason, the Track Edition cannot be returned for sound reasons--you've been warned! The Track Edition boasts a 3” T304L stainless steel downpipe-back configuration that brings out an incredibly rowdy and powerful soundtrack that is nothing short of attention-grabbing. AWE designed three, perfectly fitting (and larger) tips for the GRC: one bespoke 4.5" x 8" oval (double-walled, slash-cut tip and stamped with the AWE logo) in the center, and two 5” double-walled, slash-cut tips left and right. No forced block-off plates or quad setups here - just pure GR look, as intended. When it comes to valves, the rumors are true - they don't matter once you remove the backpressure issues of the stock configuration (and you can't open the valve yourself anyway). So we decided to delete them, save weight, drop price, and make the best sounding exhaust available for the GRC. And in case you're wondering, there's a tailored mount right on the exhaust so you have a solid location to bolt up your factory valve after removing the unnecessary organ. In place of the 180 Technology® resonator in the rear lies a Track Edition straight section. As a result, this version is known to get (really) rowdy in mid range acceleration and deceleration, and may be too much for many. You've been warned. What if it's too loud after I bought it? What if I want three tips not two? AWE made it easy to convert between Track and Touring Editions, as well as dual and triple tip configurations, if you decide at a later date to change your volume or the aesthetic. Easy. Important notes: The system includes a 3” front pipe that is designed and sized accordingly to mate to the factory downpipe or any downpipe designed to mate to the factory exhaust. This front pipe is integrated into the design of the exhausts. AWE exhausts are not designed to mate with other aftermarket front pipes. We decided to reuse the factory-style flange and gasket for reliability and long-term performance. The factory's double-layer steel gasket design is vastly superior to any aftermarket flat gasket. As a result, this version is known to get (really) rowdy in mid-range acceleration and deceleration, and may be too much for many. And you can't return it if its too loud (but you can convert it to a Touring Edition). You've been warned. Running the Track Edition and think it's too loud? AWE made it easy to switch to a Touring Edition with the engineered Conversion Kit to tone it down. You're never stuck if you decide at a later date to change your volume. Important notes: The exhausts includes a 3” front pipe. This front pipe is integrated into the design of the exhausts. AWE exhausts are not designed to mate with other aftermarket front pipes. Downpipes, on the other hand, should work just fine (so long as they work with the factory-style flange). We decided to reuse the factory-style flange and gasket for reliability and long-term performance. The factory's double-layer steel gasket design is vastly superior to any aftermarket flat gasket. This design allows for the gasket to be fully captured by the machined groove in the flange, eliminating any possibility of blowout or deterioration over long-term use. Additionally, it is fully serviceable, unlike a flat gasket that can stick to the mating flanges and tear upon removal.
