Valve locks, or keepers, are the small wedges that secure the valve spring retainer to the valve stem. Without a properly matched set, high-revving engines can suffer catastrophic failure.

Typical materials: hardened steel, chromoly, or titanium for high-RPM builds.
Common angles: 7° and 10° locks must match the retainer’s angle.
Groove styles: single-bead and multi-bead locks for different stem profiles.
Always replace locks when replacing springs or retainers; wear can lead to dropping a valve.
