The ARB Air Locker Shim Driver (0770004) is a professional-grade differential service tool engineered for the precise installation and servicing of shim-preloaded differentials. Maintaining correct carrier bearing preload is critical; insufficient preload leads to premature bearing wear and ring and pinion failure. This tool is specifically designed for Salisbury-style axle assemblies, such as the Dana Spicer Model 44, which require shims to be tapped into place to achieve specific tolerances.
Tapping a shim from a single point can easily deform or ruin the shim. This driver set utilizes six distinct steel profiles designed to distribute installation force evenly around the outside edge of the shim. This allows thinner shims to be seated in tight housings without damage, ensuring a reliable setup for both factory and Air Locker equipped differentials.
