The ARP 204-5402 Main Stud Kit is a critical upgrade for any high-performance Volkswagen 4-cylinder water-cooled engine build. Designed to replace factory main bolts that are prone to stretching, these studs provide the superior clamping force necessary to prevent main cap walk and maintain crankshaft alignment under high-load or forced-induction conditions.
Each stud is manufactured from premium 8740 chrome moly steel and heat-treated to a 200,000 psi tensile strength rating. By using studs instead of bolts, you achieve more accurate torque loading on the main caps, as the fastener is not subjected to the twisting forces typically experienced during the tightening of a bolt. This ensures a more stable bottom end and extends the life of your main bearings.
