Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gaskets are engineered to provide maximum sealing performance for high-output 1.8L Mazda engines. Constructed from multiple layers of embossed stainless steel, these gaskets offer increased strength and the ability to rebound under heavy cylinder pressures while resisting corrosion. The outer layers are coated with a 0.25-micron layer of Viton, a fluoroelastomer rubber designed to withstand temperatures up to 250°C (482°F) and maintain a reliable seal across various surface finishes and load conditions.

The MLS design requires less clamp load than traditional composite gaskets, resulting in reduced bore distortion and more even load distribution across the sealing surface. This gasket is ideal for both aluminum-to-aluminum and aluminum-to-cast iron head and block combinations, as the stainless steel layers absorb the shearing forces created by different thermal expansion rates.
