The Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is engineered to provide a superior seal for high-output BMW engines. Constructed from multiple layers of embossed stainless steel, this gasket withstands the significant shearing forces between aluminum heads and cast iron or aluminum blocks. The outer layers are finished with a Viton coating—a fluoroelastomer rubber capable of resisting temperatures up to 250°C (482°F)—ensuring a reliable seal in the harshest combustion environments.
At 0.140" compressed thickness, this MLS gasket allows for precise compression ratio adjustments or cylinder head spacing. The design requires no additional sealants and provides a more uniform load distribution across the sealing surface, reducing bore distortion and improving long-term engine reliability.
