The Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is engineered for high-output engines that demand superior sealing performance without the use of additional sealants. Constructed from multiple layers of embossed stainless steel, this gasket provides the necessary strength to resist corrosion and the rebound required to maintain a seal under the high shearing forces often found between aluminum heads and cast iron blocks.

This specific gasket features a center shim layer of uncoated stainless steel and outer layers coated in Viton, a fluoroelastomer rubber capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). The design ensures even load distribution across the sealing area, reducing bore distortion and requiring less clamp load than traditional composite gaskets. This version includes all steam holes, making it compatible with 400-series blocks or other Small Block Chevy configurations requiring additional coolant passages.
