The Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is engineered for high-output Honda "Frankenstein" builds, specifically mating a VTEC cylinder head to a non-VTEC B-series block. This gasket provides a critical seal for performance engines, utilizing multiple layers of embossed stainless steel to provide a superior rebound and resistance to corrosion. Unlike traditional composite gaskets, these MLS units require no additional sealants or copper spray for a proper seal.
The outer layers are coated on both sides with Viton—a fluoroelastomer rubber based material heat resistant to 250°C (482°F). This coating is designed to meet the demands of harsh sealing environments and varied surface finishes, while the stainless steel construction handles the shearing forces created by different thermal expansion rates between the cylinder head and block.
