The Cometic C4480-051 Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket provides a superior sealing solution for high-performance engines, specifically designed to handle the shearing forces between aluminum heads and cast iron or aluminum blocks. This gasket is constructed from multiple layers of embossed stainless steel, which offers high rebound capacity and corrosion resistance. The outer layers are precision-coated on both sides with Viton, a high-temp fluoroelastomer capable of withstanding environments up to 250°C (482°F).
Engineered for consistency, the MLS design requires less clamp load than traditional gaskets, which helps minimize bore distortion and ensures even load distribution across the entire sealing surface. The center shim layer is made of uncoated stainless steel, allowing for precise thickness control to meet specific engine requirements without the need for additional sealants.
