The Prothane 16-1602 shifter bushing kit is designed to eliminate the excessive play and "mushy" feel common in aging factory shift linkages. By replacing soft, original equipment rubber with high-durometer polyurethane, this kit provides a more direct connection between the shifter lever and the transmission. This upgrade significantly improves tactile feedback and ensures crisper, more precise gear engagement during both daily commuting and spirited driving.
Polyurethane is a superior material for suspension and drivetrain components because it does not rot or soften when exposed to oil, road salt, or extreme temperature cycles, maintaining its tolerances far longer than rubber components.
